Process Specification-Welding Aerospace Flight Hardware

This process specification establishes uniform requirements for the design, fabrication, and inspection of welds in flight and ground support hardware. This process specification combines the lessons learned from extensive Agency-wide welding engineering experiences and combines the requirements of project, Center, other government, and industry documents used for the manufacture of historic spaceflight hardware such as Saturn, the Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station. When this process specification is specified on contract documents, the contractor may submit an alternative, corporate, detailed weld process specification that meets the intent of this specification. Industry, government, and company specifications may be used for welding hardware in lieu of this specification if approved by the responsible NASA Technical Authority. The content of this process specification meets the intent of NASA-STD-(I)-5006A. The purpose of this process specification is to establish the minimum process control requirements for the design, fabrication (including the qualification of welders, welding operators, and welding procedure specifications), and quality assurance of manual, semiautomatic, mechanized, and automatic welds in flight and ground support hardware used by or for MSFC.
